Tips of the month
Unfortunately, there is no single piece that will do everything; despite what all of the infomercials say. Your body needs a balance of strength training and cardiovascular training, and equipment can be as unique as the people who buy it. The best piece for YOU will be determined by your budget, space, past experiences, fitness goals, and personal preference. A professionally trained fitness consultant should be able to help determine which piece or pieces work best for you. 2. How do I know I am getting a quality piece? To know quality, look at the standard warranty with each piece. Warranty on fitness equipment is the biggest indicator of quality. Usually, the better the quality, the better the warranty. You should never invest more money in an extended warranty. Follow these guidelines to determine good warranties 4. Where do I put my piece once I get it home? Use common sense when placing your piece. Ask yourself these questions. 5. How do I know what elliptical is best for me? The easy answer is to say the one you feel best on, and for the most part, feel will be the most important aspect of your search; however, there are many factors that go into choosing an elliptical. First and foremost, ellipticals all have unique feels. The best designed ellipticals keep your heels as close to the footplate as possible because it lessens joint stress. Remember, ellipticals were invented for knee rehabilitation not to duplicate running or walking. 6. How do I know what treadmill is best for me? First, ask yourself whether you would be running or walking more. If you plan to run more, you will need something that will take more pounding. Don’t be afraid to spend a little more because getting a quality piece upfront saves you money in the long run. The next question you need to ask is whether you want a folding machine or non-folding machine. As of late, folding machines are becoming more and more sturdy and reliable. Typically, you will have more of a selection with non-folding machines. As far as cushioning goes, you will want something that provides good cushioning to land on, but something firm when you push off. Stay away from something too soft or springy. 7. How do I know what bike is best for me? When it comes to buying a bike, you will have two style choices. The most popular style of bike is a semi-recumbent bike. These provide great back support and usually are more comfortable for people over all. If you are an avid outdoor biker, you may want to look into an upright bike. These will give you a more realistic riding experience. Either style will help raise your heart rate. Just make sure you are comfortable when you use it. 8. How do I choose the right home gym? When buying a home gym, it is best to draw on your previous experience with strength equipment. Are you used to free weight or cables or both? Many home gyms will replicate both types of training, and there are three main types of home gyms: standard, hybrid, and functional. The standard gyms are what many people are used to seeing; however, as functional training becomes more and more popular, hybrid and functional gyms are becoming more in demand. When you are on your search, pick the exercises that are important to you, and try to them on each gym you are considering. The one that is smoothest and most comfortable will be the one you should choose. |
